I think that's a much better way to improve the computer's performance than overclocking the CPU.I overclocked my old Phenom II X6 1090T almost a decade ago from it's stock 3.2 GHz (I think it was) to 4.9GHz but CPU-Z reported unstable, so I backed down to 3.8 GHz with 1.434v or so and had it stable playing Crysis 1-3. Now it boots a whole lot faster and is a lot more responsive. That is even more important when you are overclocking the CPU.Įarlier this year I replaced the 1TB Seagate 3.5-inch HDD boot drive with a 1TB Samsung 850 EVO 2.5-inch SATA SSD. That is the main reason I haven't tried to overclock it. In 2013 I replaced the CPU with an AMD FX-8350. In the end if I tried to boot it at a higher speed than its minimum 400MHz it would crash. The CPU eventually failed probably because I pushed it too hard causing it run too hot. I started with a AMD Phenom II X4 955 on a Gigabyte GA-990FXA-UD3 v1.0 motherboard.
